Born in Tacloban City, Philippines, started playing piano
at the age of 4.
Being raised in a small city with less possibilities for piano
lessons, she was practically self-taught until she moved to Manila at the age
of 17.
Upon arrival in Manila, she became an active musician and
engaged in different piano competitions, piano masterclasses and piano
festivals.
Charisse had been an accompanist for Ballet schools, Theater companies, Eurythmy, choirs, chamber groups and for soloists in different instruments and prominent singers in the Philippines.
She has given concerts in Sweden, Switzerland and in different parts of the Philippines.
She studied Music at the University of Santo Tomas in
Manila, Philippines and was a student of Patria Aliwalas.
She
was coached under the German trained pianist Peter Porticos and See Siang Wong
in Switzerland, and was coached in collaborative piano by Najib Ismail. Her masterclasses included Emilio del Rosario, Reynaldo
Reyes, Horace Nuguid, Albert Tiu and Aima Labra-Makk.
She has premiered solo piano works by Swiss composer Stefan Werren, and had collaborated with various Swiss and Filipino artists. In 2019, she went on a concert tour in the Philippines with luminary Swiss cellist, Thomas Demenga.
Charisse always believed that classical music is for everyone, and had started a project called Musica Para Cuatro Manos. A non-profit concert series bringing piano music to the smaller cities in the Philippines.
She is currently working as a music teacher, eurythmy pianist and choir
repetiteur at the Rudolf Steiner Schule Ittigen, pianist of Marianus Eurythmie Ensemble, pianist of Incanto Chor Bern, musical directior of the Filipinas
Chorale Group Bern, and regularly collaborates with singers and chamber musicians for different projects.
Italian composer, Manuel Chieregato, had recently dedicated five books of piano music to Charisse Dumlao, which is set to be recorded for the Praladrit Arts Collective. She is an artist of Papital Records.
